Tallulah Falls

IMG_3284A wonderful Staycation trip is up to Tallulah Falls. There are 6 falls. It is incredible. Tallulah Gorge is two miles long and nearly 1,000 feet (300m) deep. IMG_3275Here’s a little store and it has a great view of the gorge, (they have birch beer, yummy).

There is Tallulah Lake with a beach, it is closed now. Then you go across the road and up the mountain a bit and you come to the Jane Hurt Interpretive Center which highlights the history of this Victorian Resort town as well as the rugged terrain and fragile ecosystem. IMG_3301They have different levels of water releases, some for White Water rafting a couple times in the year. In October they are going to have a full moon suspension bridge hike and a full moon paddle on the lake. You need  to make reservations.

IMG_3290The falls truly are spectacular. It is about an hour and a half out of Atlanta.

Let me know about your experiences! IMG_3306

Lullwater Preserve

This 154 acre preserve lies in the heart of Emory University’s campus. My neighbor Will wanted to take my walking buddies and his pups (remember Catfish and Pumpkin?) to a park, because they had been so good last week.IMG_0535

We finally found it, and where to park, and how to get there. It was absolutely beautiful. IMG_2602At first we drove up to the President’s house. It was a gorgeous Tudor. Originally built by Walter Turner Candler, son of Coca Cola mogul Asa Candler. He purchased the land in 1925, 230 acres and called it Lullwater farms. He loved nature and wanted to preserve the forest part of it. He added in Candler lake, by damning up a stream, South Fork Peachtree Creek. IMG_2606

He had a horse track to run his horses on too, that is now the VA Hospital. IMG_2630

It was a beautiful day and the pups had a great time. IMG_2623You really need to check this one out. We will show some more parks for your “StayCation” this summer!

Little Grand Canyon In Georgia

IMG_2477Providence State Park is located in Lumpkin Georgia, about 2 1/2 hours south of Atlanta. You basically go to Columbus Georgia and turn left. The view is breathtaking.  IMG_2444

It is a short hike down to the bottom of Canyons 1 and 2. Through 2 you can reach Canyons 3, 4 and 5. There’s some water running through the floor of the canyons, so, wear shoes you don’t mind getting clayy. IMG_2413

Then you look up and this is what you see. IMG_2418

Then you can go up the 3-mile White Blaze Trail, it takes about an hour and a half. It is a good hike, not too tough.  It is shady and there was  a nice breeze.IMG_2422

When you get to the top there are several overlook spots. IMG_2479

This is an awesome Staycation activity! You can go with family and/or friends. There are picnic tables if you pack up lunch.

Oh and there are really cool dragonflies!
