Snowing in Atlanta

It is so crazy in Atlanta when there might be snow. The meteorologists go crazy for days explaining about the storm. Three or four years ago there was a storm that came in and it was horrible. The roads weren’t salted or sprayed and everyone decided to leave at around 3:00. People were stuck in traffic up to 10 hours. It was a fiasco. So, now everyone goes overboard the other way. Channel 2 even decided not to show Fish Tank, so they could report the “snow” around the city. The only problem was, there was no snow.

This is what we woke up to img_7915

The neighbors and I bundled up and walked around the block.

It was very cold, still is. It was so beautiful.img_7926

I can’t even tell you how ridiculous the grocery store is at the mention of a snow storm. Bread, milk and water, gone!

Bradley Cooper enjoyed it though.

My Father’s Best Friend Passed Away this Week.

My father’s best friend, Dr. Donald Sitterson, died in his home on Wednesday of this week.

They were fishing buddies and jazz buddies, breakfast buddies. They truly were best friends.

My Dad has dementia so he has not seen Don in a few years, but when we speak of Don, my dad’s face lights up and he says “he’s my best friend”.

Don was a dentist for many years in Jacksonville, he had a really strong practice. He got his degree from Emory University in Atlanta. He and his wife Judy would come to Atlanta for reunions and they would always take me out. He was super kind and thoughtful.

Don and Judy always had a brunch on Christmas Day. It was a tradition. Don loved to party and so did his family, it was always a super fun time. The best part was the exchange of gifts between dad and Don. Each year they would work all year collecting things they thought would be hysterical. They both were pretty deaf so, it ended up being a hoot.

Don lived his life to the fullest, traveling all over in his van when he retired, going kayaking and partying with his friends and family.

Dr. Don Sitterson was a very very good man, and I loved him very much.

The Love of Greens – The Recipe

Take 6 cups of cleaned greens – I use collard greens – Cover them with water and boil for 45 minutes.

greens5

Put 4 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan and add 2/3 cup chopped onion and 1 teaspoon of garlic cook till translucent.

greens4

2-3 teaspoons ground chili de arbol, add this to the onions. Drain the water out of the greens and add the onion mixture along with 2 1/2 cups of chicken stock and 1 1/2 cup of tomatoes with green chilies (like Rotel)

Then let it all cook together for about 1/2 an hour. Wah Lah
