Bone Garden Cantina was on the Travel Channel, Best True Mexican Restaurants in America, so I had to go check it out. A little hard to find, but not really.
A lot of restaurants are charging for chips and salsa now, this is one of them. The salsa was excellent, the chips had a little too much salt on them for me, but if you like salted chips you would love it. I ordered a chicken taco and pork tamale (my other quest for the best is tamales, just haven’t reported it yet.). The chicken taco was excellent, the corn tortilla was one of the best I have had. The tamale was very good but not the best. The pork filling to the masa was just a little off for me. They do not have fajitas, but I think they are more traditional. Overall an extremely great experience, my waitress was so great! She was really attentive. I say go there and check it out, food is worth it!
This past Saturday my neighbors Mark and Alan had LobsterFest 2014 in honor of Mark’s mother Diane, who passed away last year. These lobsters were humongous. They were also delicious! A good looking group. Lots of wine and lots of food. Wait till you see dessert. It all was so incredibly delicious.
This is Will and his lobster. If you want to host a LobsterFest for a Staycation, you can order them from the Lobsterguy.com. (Your friends each pay for their own lobsters) It was a blast and we can’t thank our hosts more!
Do you love looking at paintings? There is a wonderful Art Gallery in Historic Duluth. There is a great variety of artwork from a few different artists. Most of it by the owners, which are two extremely kind and talented people, Pam and Larry Smith oh and their new puppy! Their gallery is 2 Smith Art Gallery in Duluth, Georgia.
This is Pam’s card. You can take her a photo and she will paint it for you and it is just priceless. Her work is stunning.
Here is Larry’s card.He paints landscapes, they are outstanding. He also teaches painting and his Fall Painting Classes are starting soon.I think they are an amazing duo and I am sure they are great teachers! If you are interested go to http://www.artistlarrysmith.com.
You can find their gallery at 3150 Main Street Suite 101, Duluth, Georgia 30096.
So, I went to Don Pedro on Monday. Excellent by the way. Then I thought I would drive up Buford Highway to Buford Dam, but on the way I saw a sign, historic Duluth turn left. I turn and find a parking lot on pavers, cute. I get out of the car and see a fountain with kids playing in it. Then I see this cute playground. Then they have these incredibly cute shops down the street. The only problem was that it was Monday and most everything is closed on Monday, but this cute shop was open. This place is adorable! Honestly cute bags, cute clothes, great gifts and cards the the store’s owner could not have been nicer. There are a few restaurants, I think Pure Taqueria was the only one open.On Thursdays they have Thisty Thursdays and you can get a drink, cocktail, beer and walk around and shop. On Thursdays they have a farmers market also.
They have cool concerts all the time and a beautiful music venue – Red Clay Theatre.
It would be a fun date night place to go, a fun family day trip, or a great weekend fun day! Check it out. (Tomorrow I am going to let you know about a very special art gallery out there that is a must see!)
Okay technically they are not called fajitas here, so I ordered the pollo asado, grilled chicken. Here’s the deal, this place is packed with Hispanic people and me, good sign. The service is super fast. The chicken is really super tender and must have been marinated. The skin is crispy and so good! The salsa bar is very good. The sides are good too. Oh the salad was really good, iceberg lettuce, which can be yummy. Yes that is cheese dip in the background, also very good but too much food. Oh and the Coke, hecho en Mexico. If you haven’t had one give it a try, very sweet and very good! This place is winner winner chicken dinner!
Oh it is way up Buford Highway, right after Beaver Ruin. The conclusion is I need to try these small great mexican restaurants.
Tomorrow I will let you know somewhere great I discovered!
If I don’t find the BEST soon, I might just be burning myself out on Fajitas. Today it was Tacos & Tequilla. It is a lively place. Cool looking inside. I think they had a little trouble deciding who would be my waiter, but it was just a hiccup. So, I ordered queso and then the chicken fajitas and a lime and some jalepeno slices. I pour the jalepeno slices into the queso, and they were a little spicy, but made it really good! Out came the fajitas…Lots of onions and peppers and although the chicken was grilled and sliced, they were still pretty tender and juicy. This was very good, the best thing about these fajitas was the salsa. This is some great salsa. I am going to continue the quest. The next restaurant will be a hole in the wall. I will report later. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Oh, they have 3 locations, Buckhead, Midtown and Cumming!
