Places you can Staycation with your Pup!

Staycationers there are all kinds of places you can take your pup in Atlanta.

Panola Mountain State Park

Staycationers there are so many parks around Atlanta. So, Coop and I went to Panola Mountain State Park. IMG_5797This marker tells you how far it is to each park area. IMG_5798There are over 20 miles of trails like this one. There are three other ones that are marked trails within the forest. It is amazingly lush and green. They have signs for deer, IMG_5806but we did not see any. They have Picnic shelters you can rent. They also have bikes you can rent and jon boats and canoes. They have an archery area and give classes (you can rent the equipment) They also have rustic campsites, not my style but hey…

There is not much shade on the trail. IMG_5799We were in about a mile and a half and it was just too hot for the Coop.IMG_5800I had plenty of water for him, but we had to turn around. When we got back to the car the sky clouded up a little. IMG_5805We were kinda hoping it would rain.

I will return and I think I might rent a bike next time. More to tell then!

Kennesaw Mountain

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park IMG_5791is a 2,965 acre national park that preserves the civil war battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. Opposing forces maneuvered and fought here from June 19, 1864 until July 2, 1864.

We started at the top of Kennesaw mountain, which the elevation is 1,808 above sea level.IMG_5781We can see Atlanta, Buckhead, Stone Mountain. It is so cool. IMG_5788Okay it was a little hazy. We took this photo by one of the cannons on Kennesaw Mountain…IMG_5785We kept walking on to Little Kennesaw Mountain and then that leads to Pigeon Hill…IMG_5790We didn’t go all of the way to Pigeon Hill but we walked a long way. The one thing Ella and I kept saying as we were hiking is they brought those cannons all the way up here in those uniforms, we do not know how.

It was a great day for hiking and fun to do, I totally recommend it for Staycationers, oh and visitors to our city.

Henry’s Louisiana Grill

My two nieces, Ella and Zelda accompanied me to Acworth Georgia (about 30 minutes north of Atlanta). We were on a mission to try Henry’s for Cajun food. IMG_5694

First a little about Acworth, it is an adorable little town with cute older homes and Lake Acworth and an adorable Main Street. IMG_5696They have gotten some of their 4th of July decorations out, as Zelda met Uncle Sam…IMG_5701   IMG_5699Then on to Henry’s.

IMG_5703 We were seated immediately in a cool cute restaurant with lots of warm woods and church pews and lots of New Orleans artwork and treasures.

We were served bread, two kinds, a cornbread and sourdough, both extremely yummy, but the cornbread won with just a tad of spice to it. Henry's 3

My niece, Zelda, had never had Cajun so we ordered the sampler appetizer with Gumbo, Crawfish Étouffée, and Jambalaya. We then order some hushpuppies and Fried Étouffée. Henry's 6It was all delicious. Just the right amount of heat to everything. (If you needed extra, they have a large variety of hot sauces on the table)Henry's 5These are two of the hushpuppies. I have never tasted hushpuppies like these, they were out of this world.

The service was excellent. Chef Henry came out and put beads around our necks. It was a great time and great food. We will return and recommend that you should try it out! IMG_5716

Maison Robert – Chocolatier Amazing

My niece passed her Driving Learners Permit test today, so she asked what should we do? Drive and Celebrate I replied. We went to a parking lot and she drove. Then she got bored so we went to have Pho…Pho 1It is soooo good, ridiculous!Pho2But then, we ventured on to Maison Robert….IMG_5665It is a Chocolatier in Chamblee. IMG_5668    This place has excellent chocolates and gifts…IMG_5670  IMG_5671

IMG_5672 We ordered two of about four different truffles. (They are very small, don’t judge) They are really great, really. It is a super cute spot and they have classes. IMG_5676

IMG_5673They have sandwiches and salads too. The building is really cool too. IMG_5679

Horseback Riding and Hooters!

Today was my nieces 15th Birthday! IMG_5655        I remember the first time I met her and now it is hard to believe she is this AWESOME young lady. (Well not too hard to believer because she has always been so remarkable!)

So, we decided to go horseback riding at Lake Lanier.IMG_5653Lake Lanier is about 45 minutes north of Atlanta. This is Susan’s horse Noodle…IMG_5649It was a trail ride and lasted about 45 minutes. Lake Lanier Horse 2It was peaceful and lovely. We saw two baby deer and a gosling. At the end of the ride my horse was ready to get back (it was HOT) She tried to bolt ahead, which made it really fun.

We we all hungry afterwards. We headed back to town for a big birthday lunch at Hooters. IMG_5657Okay, I did mention to our server, Gabby, that is was Ella’s Birthday. IMG_5659Ella was totally embarrassed, but, a good sport. The servers and the whole restaurant clapped and were into the singing. IMG_5662Happy Birthday to such a sweet person!!!
