A Walk Around the Block
I wanted to take you around the block with Coop and me. So here we go,
Here we go up the driveway. One of the reasons we love the neighborhood is it feels like we are in the country, but we are in the city. Up the road
High tension wires, so that is one not so nice thing. Then up on Sheridan there is a lovely church….
This is a great neighborhood.
The little ledge that Coop loves to walk on the top of…..
Yep on the wall walk….
Then there is this house…
They just built it, they tore down a cute small house and built this HUGE House.
This was a daughter/daddy project from the folks on the corner. I love it! So, that is a brief look at our walk, we love it, hope you did too!
Krog Street Market
Staycationers there is a new hip place to go, Krog Street Market (but don’t ask Siri, she doesn’t know how to get there).
It is so cool. It has a bar right when you walk in, who doesn’t love that?
Hop City!
I was looking for Fred’s Meat and Bread, I mean the name itself is just great, don’t you think? On the way there I passed a florist, a tart shop,
a pet store, Jeni’s Ice cream, the Spotted Trotter – Meats cheeses and sausages (which are meats) So right before Fred’s Meat and Bread, there is Yalla, a Mediterranean restaurant. Before that there is Grand Champion BBQ, So the lady working there
persuaded me to give it a try.
So I ask the guy what is the best thing on the menu, pulled pork, so, I got a pulled pork sandwich and macaroni and cheese.
can you see how much you get? It was so good and you cannot eat it all. I made it through a half of sandwich. Now I have to go back and try all of the other places. I can’t wait.
Oglethorpe University
A Staycation Idea is to visit a local University, today’s visit was to Oglethorpe University.
Oglethorpe University was founded in 1835 and it was started in 1835 with 4 faculty members and 25 students but it was located in Midway, a small community near Milledgeville GA, then the capital of Georgia.
The University closed in 1862 due to the Civil War when the students were soldiers. It lost its endowment because it was in Confederate bonds. Its buildings were barracks and hospitals. In 1870 the institution was briefly relocated in downtown Atlanta, where the present day city hall is.
In 1872 it closed its doors for a second time.
Oglethorpe was rechartered and in 1915 the cornerstone to the new campus was laid at its current location on Peachtree Road in Atlanta.
It is a cool self contained Gothic Campus near Buckhead.
It is a spectacular campus and well worth a visit.
One very interesting fact is The Crypt of Civilization, the first modern day time capsule is on this campus and not to be opened till the year 8113 AD.
I will be visiting other campuses. Let me know if there are any of real interest to you!
Yummy Nachos
I started out with some diced onions in some ground beef and I used a poblano pepper too, browned the ground beef, added in some Herdez salsa,
And then I added in Ducal refried beans. Place some Xochil tortilla chips on the cookie sheet and I am usually meticulous about spreading the meat mixture on each chip, this time, I just placed it all over. Then the cheese, I had a shredded quesadilla cheese but you can use just about anything. Throw it into the oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Now, here’s what does it, chop up fresh tomatoes, an avocado some lettuce and some jalapeños but then a drizzle of jalapeño ranch dressing and a drizzle of the salsa – Heaven!

Happy New Year – Good Luck to All! Collard Greens
Here is my super secret collard green recipe, enjoy! Take 16 ounces fresh Collards or you can use Turnip Greens too. Boil them for 45 minutes with water to about half of the way in the pot, like this
Now grab a cup of tea.
Chop up a small onion and a couple of cloves of garlic.
If you have a small, mini food processor take a bout 4 chile de arbol pods and put them in and grind them up.
Melt 3 tablespoons of butter and the onions garlic and ground chile de arbol. Drain the water off of the greens add a half of a jar of Herdez salsa, hot! to the greens.
Okay add the onion mixture stir and leave on to cook at medium for an hour. Now you know the secret to good luck for the new year! ENJOY!! and Happy New Year!
Winter Trail Walk WooHoo!
It was a gorgeous day. The weather was perfect.
Beautiful beginning to the walk….
It was a crisp and clear day.
Up the steps to an old fireplace…
Then back down the steps…
Some more shots…
The graffiti artists have been branching out.
At least they have a sense of humor.
Cool mushrooms. Then the sense of humor ran out.
Not cool.
We ran into two other Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They were not interested in Coop though.
It has been an interesting year on the trail, Thank you all for going on the trail with me! Happy New Year!
